The hôtel roques-guilhem

42rvh is in the heart of the old town, or Bastide St Louis, the historic heart of the town of Carcassonne. The suites are located on the first floor of an hôtel particulier (grand French townhouse) and are a minutes walk from the Place Carnot – the buzzy central square. The bastide town sits on the opposite bank of the River Aude from the medieval Cité and was founded in the C13th – it is known locally as the old town, not to be confused with the older Cité!

The house itself is of major historical importance and is shown on all the town plans and maps. The site originally housed a C14th Augustine convent and the building as it is today was built by a wealthy fabric merchant between 1735 and 1750. The exterior of the building and the magnificent stone entrance staircase with its ornate wrought iron balustrade are protected as a monuments historiques.
